Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
